Uniform

Our Uniform Policy can be found on the POLICIES page of our website.

Please ensure ALL uniform (including coats, hats, scarves, packed lunch boxes, water bottles etc) is clearly labelled with your child’s name. Named items will be returned to your child if lost. Unnamed items will be placed in the lost property boxes found in the school lobby. Any unclaimed items at the end of each half term will be recycled.

• PTA Secondhand uniform – order online for collection at the school office or delivery to child’s classroom. (Orders placed by 8pm on Thursday will be available for collection from the school lobby on Friday afternoon.)

• Navy V-neck sweatshirt or cardigan (logo optional)
• Light blue polo shirt (logo optional)
• Bottoms
  
  • Grey trousers, shorts, skirt, skort, pinafore dress or light blue summer dress (for warm weather days)
• Socks or tights in plain grey or white
• Summer dress (light blue gingham)
• Shoe should be plain, solid, completely black shoes OR completely black trainers.
  • Trainer Rules: The upper material, soles, sides, stitching, and laces must be entirely black. No white or coloured logos.
  • Younger children: Velcro fastenings are highly recommended instead of laces
  • Plain sandals are allowed in the Summer but must be worn with socks.
• Hair accessories
  • Simple bands, slides, or ribbons in blue, black, or red only.  Long hair must be tied back securely.

PE Kit – children should come to school in their PE kit on the day(s) they have PE. 

All PE clothing must be generic and completely unbranded (no commercial logos, brand names, or football shirts).

HOUSE COLOURS - any shade
Batchwood - green, Harpenden - blue, Townsend - yellow, Waverley - red. 

• PE shorts - plain black, navy or dark blue
  • Fit standard: Must be standard athletic fit (not tight/restrictive) and mid-thigh length or longer.  High-cut "short-shorts" or compression shorts are not permitted.
• Plain t-shirt in your child’s assigned house colour
• Plain sweatshirt in your child’s assigned house colour
• Tracksuit bottoms/leggings - plain navy or black
• Trainers - your child can wear their daily plain black trainers for PE to avoid buying two pairs
• Spare socks/pants

Weather Safety and Sunscreen

• Summer Sun Protection: A sun hat or cap is compulsory.  Sunglasses are permitted at the owner’s risk.  Shoulders must remain covered. 
• Sunscreen Rule: Please apply high-factor, long-lasting sunscreen at home before school.
  • Bringing sunscreen: Children may bring their own sunscreen only if it is a roll-on variety, clearly labelled, and for their own individual use (no sharing allowed). Children must apply it independently; staff cannot apply it.  No aerosol or pump sprays are permitted.
  • The Hub: If your child attends after-school care, coordinate a second application directly with the Hub team.
• Winter Protection: Hats and gloves are recommended, but a winter coat is compulsory.

Swimming

Children in Yrs 4-6 will have swimming lessons as part of their PE lessons at some point during the academic year.

• Towel and swimming cap 
• Girls – one-piece swimming costume (no 2-piece/bikinis). 
• Boys – swimming trunks (no loose, long Bermuda-style shorts).

Jewellery, Long Hair, General Appearance & Accessories

Book bags - Children in EYFS should use a school book bag into which teachers will place reading books and letters home.  Children in KS1 and KS2 may wish to use a small back-pack.

Cosmetics: Makeup, tinted products, nail varnish, and temporary tattoos are strictly prohibited.

Jewellery: Strictly no jewellery is allowed due to safety risks.  The only exceptions are certain religious items or a single pair of plain, small, round stud earrings.

• PE Days: Earrings must be removed by the child, or covered using parent-provided micro-pore tape.

Long hair - should be tied back securely. Simple bands, slides, or ribbons in blue, black, or red only.  

Mobile Phones - From September 2025, smartphones (and smart watches) are no longer permitted for pupils during school hours or on school premises - LETTER. The decision aligns with the Smartphone Free Childhood Campaign.

Watches: Junior children may wear a standard analogue or digital watch at their own risk.  Absolutely no smartwatches or devices capable or taking photos, videos, gaming, or messaging are permitted. 

Water bottle - Children should bring a water bottle to school every day containing water (no juice or squash).
